7 Awesome Zines That You
"Perzines are about vulnerability and sharing part of yourself with an audience, but Lady Teeth #7 utilizes a whole other kind of vulnerability: the kind achieved when opening up to someone you trust." - Women Write About Comics
"By the time I reached the back cover, I felt like she and I had gone on a really solid road trip together because we’d had such an in-depth, varied conversation." - Bianca Barragan, LA Zine Fest

Lady Teeth #8 started as the follow-up to my 2013 memoir, Heavy Hangs the Head but then it became something different. People kept asking when I would write another book but I couldn't live up to those expectations & anyway, I'm a zine maker not a book writer. This zine is about falling in love with BMX & the way my body moves when I ride. It's about falling in love with everything (it's always about falling in love) & allowing myself to experience an emotional existence without shame. It's a love letter to nature & the magnificence of it all. It's about feeling completely connected to the universe & the bliss that brings. It's what it means to become the kind of person who uses words like "bliss" to describe their life. It's about getting sober & staying sober & how I do that. It's unapologetically positive. I hope you like it.
Lady Teeth #8 is 1/4 legal & 32 pages.
This issue of Lady Teeth is a split zine. Lady Teeth #7 is a collection of correspondence between my friend Jonas (of the zine Cheer the Eff up) & I. We spent a few weeks writing each other back & forth, processing things & trying our best to help each other figure out our shit. It's painfully, brutally honest.
It's questions asked & sometimes, questions answers.
Lady Teeth #7 is 1/4 legal & 30 pages.
This is a breakup zine mostly but it's also about San Francisco & Ladies Rock Camp. This zine is about people in my life dying & going off my meds. It's about Internet dating & falling for heavily tattooed babes from up north.
"We were making plans but I wasn't sure if they were real life or some sort of charming fantasy to pull me in. I ignored the nagging feeling that I was getting lost in a premature fantasy of a life that I wanted but wouldn't actually get. But I let myself enjoy it. I would make the forty minute drive to his house & he would make me dinner. We would eat outside by candlelight, listening to records on his portable record player, sitting as close to each other as we could. We would fall asleep tangled in each other's arms & wake up exactly the same way. I would think about that farm & this dude & I was excited again over the idea of falling in love".
Lady Teeth #5 is 1/4 legal and 30 pages.
Lady Teeth #4 is about relationships, not just those of a romantic nature but friendships & family too. It's about traveling & spending time with people who "get you" & about living side by side with people who might not. It's about the complications of maintaining friendships when you sometimes have trouble maintaining your own emotional stability. This issue also has a follow-up to the "Radical Act of Self-Care & Learning to Love Yourself" which is my guide to feeling better & surviving. It's about staying sober in order to stay ok. It's about living up to everyone's expectations while letting yourself down & how you can fight that feeling.
This zine is intense, maybe triggering. It's about death & abuse, love & survival. I tried to be honest, to write from my heart. I'm not perfect, neither is my heart. But this zine is an attempt to work through shit that is happening in my life, my head, my heart.
Lady Teeth #4 is 1/4 letter & 40 pages.
